4
Your father made our yoke heavy, and now you lighten from the hard service of your father and from his heavy yoke which he put upon us, and we will serve you
6
And the king instructed the elders who had been standing before Solomon his father while he was still alive, saying, How do you counsel, and I shall answer this people a word?
7
And they spoke to him, saying, If you will be a servant to this people today and will serve them and will speak to them good words, then they will be your servants all the days.
8
And he forsook the counsel of the elders which they had counseled him, and he took counsel with the young men who had been brought up with him, those standing before his face.
10
And the young men who had been brought up with him, those standing before his face, spoke to him, saying, Thus you shall speak to this people, who spoke to you, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy, and now you, lighten from us; thus you shall speak to them, My little finger is thicker than my father’s loins.
14
And he spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke; my father disciplined you with whips, and I will discipline you with scorpions.
15
And the king did not listen to the people, because it was a turning from the Lord, in order that he might establish his word which he spoke by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite concerning Jeroboam son of Nebat.
16
And all Israel saw that the king did not listen to them, and the people answered the king, saying, What share do we have in David, and there is no inheritance for us in the son of Jesse; to your tents, Israel; now, feed your house, David. And Israel went away to his tents.
18
And the king sent Adoniram who was over the tribute, and all Israel stoned him with stones, and he died, and King Rehoboam hastened to mount up to flee to Jerusalem.
20
And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned from Egypt, that they sent and called him to the assembly, and they made him king over Israel; and there was none behind the house of David except the tribe of Judah and Benjamin alone.
21
And Rehoboam entered into Jerusalem and assembled the congregation of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin, one hundred and twenty thousand young men making war, to wage war against the house of Israel, to turn back the kingdom to Rehoboam son of Solomon
24
Thus says the Lord: You shall not go up, and you shall not wage war with your brothers, the sons of Israel. Let each return to his house, because this matter has come from me. And they heard the word of the Lord and ceased from going according to the word of the Lord.
27
If this people should go up to offer sacrifices in the house of the Lord at Jerusalem, then the heart of the people will turn back to the Lord and their lord to Rehoboam king of Judah, and they will kill me
28
And the king took counsel and went and made two golden calves and said to the people, It is enough for you to go up to Jerusalem; behold, your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.
32
And Jeroboam made a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like the feast that is in the land of Judah, and he went up onto the altar that he had made in Bethel, to sacrifice to the calves that he had made, and he stationed in Bethel the priests of the high places that he had made
33
And he went up onto the altar which he had made on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, in the feast which he had devised from his own heart, and he made a feast for the sons of Israel, and he went up onto the altar to burn incense
