When leaders began to lead in Israel, when the people willingly offered themselves, bless the Lord
Hear, kings; give ear, satraps; mighty ones. I will sing to the Lord; I will make melody to the God of Israel.
Lord, when you went out from Seir, when you departed from the field of Edom, the earth was shaken, and the heaven was amazed, and the clouds dropped water.
The mountains were shaken from before the Lord, this Sinai, from before the Lord God of Israel.
In the days of Shamgar son of Anath, in the days of Jael, kings failed, and they went on paths; they went on twisted roads.
A ruler failed in Israel, he failed until Deborah arose, until a mother arose in Israel
They chose new gods, as barley bread; a covering, if I see plots among forty thousands
My heart is on the things appointed for Israel; you mighty ones of the people, bless the Lord
you who ride on donkeys, sitting on saddle blankets
Give a sound, among those making music, among those rejoicing; there they will give righteousness to the Lord. The righteous strengthened themselves in Israel. Then the people of the Lord went down to his cities.
Awake, awake, Deborah; awake myriads with a people; awake, awake, speak with song; strengthen, arise, Barak, and strengthen Deborah, your Barak; take captive your captivity, son of Abineem
Then his strength was magnified; O Lord, humble for me my stronger ones
Out of Ephraim came a people against them into the valley of your brother Benjamin, among your peoples; from me Machir went down searching out, and from Zebulun the Lord was warring for me in the strong ones from there, with the scepter of one strengthening rule
In Issachar, with Debbora, he sent out his footmen into the valley. Why do you dwell among the folds? In his feet he extended himself in the divisions; Reuben, great searchings of heart.
Why did you sit between the sheepfolds, to hear the whistlings of the flocks? Great searchings of heart for Reuben, to pass over into his things.
Gilead beyond the Jordan dwelt in tents, and Dan, why does he stay by the ships? Asher settled beside the shore of the seas, and he dwelt in his landings.
Zebulun, a people who reproached his life unto death, and Naphtali on the heights of the field
Kings came and took their stand; then kings of Canaan fought, in Taanach by the waters of Megiddo; they took no gain of silver.
From heaven the stars fought; from their courses they fought against Sisera
The river Kishon swept them away, the river Kishon, the river of Cadēmim; my soul will tread them down with strength.
Then the heels of horses were cut off, the mighty ones of his prancing, his strong ones
Curse Meroz, said the angel of the Lord; curse, curse its inhabitants, because they did not come to the help of the Lord, the helper of us, the Lord, among the warriors mighty.
Blessed among women be Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite; among women in the tent may she be blessed.
He asked her for water, and she gave him milk; in a bowl of the mighty she brought near butter
She stretched out her left hand to the peg, her right hand to the workmen’s hammer, and she cut off Sisera, crushed his head, and shattered and pierced his jaw.
Between her feet he bent, he fell, he slept; between her feet, in that in which he bent, there he fell, wretched one
Through the window the mother of Sisara peered out, looking through the lattice, watching for those who were turning back with Sisara. Why has his chariot been delayed in coming? Why have the tracks of his chariots tarried?
The wise women of her rulers answered her, and she herself answered in her words
Will they not find him dividing spoils, a womb or two for every man, spoil of dyed garments for Sisera, spoil of dyed garments of embroidery, dyed embroidery around his neck as spoil?
So may all your enemies perish, Lord, and those who love him, as the rising of the sun in his mights. And the land was at rest forty years.
