And all the sons of Israel went out, and all the assembly was gathered together as one man, from Dan and as far as Beer-sheba, and the land of Gilead, to the Lord at Mizpah.
And the assembly of all the people, all the tribes of Israel, stood in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand men on foot, drawing the sword.
And the sons of Benjamin heard that the sons of Israel had gone up to the Lord to Massepha, and the sons of Israel said, Speak, where did this evil happen?
And the Levite man, the man of the murdered woman, answered and said, I came into Gibeah of Benjamin, I and my concubine, to lodge
And the men who were from Gibeah rose up against me and surrounded the house against me by night and wanted to kill me, and they humbled my concubine and played the fool with her, and she died
And I took hold of my concubine and cut her in pieces and sent her throughout every border of the inheritance of Israel, because they committed folly in Israel
Behold, all of you sons of Israel, give for yourselves word and counsel.
And all the people rose up as one man, saying, We will not enter, each man, into his tent, and we will not turn aside, each man, into his house.
And now this is the thing that we will do to Gabaa: we will go up against it by lot.
and we shall take ten men from the hundred and a hundred from the thousands and a thousand from the myriads, to take provisions for the people for those who are going in, to carry out against Gabaa of Benjamin all the folly which they did in Israel
And all the men of Israel were gathered from the cities as one man, coming
And the tribes of Israel sent men into every tribe of Benjamin, saying, What is this wickedness that has come to pass among you?
And now give up the wicked men in Gibeah, the sons of Belial, and we will put them to death and remove evil from Israel. But the sons of Benjamin were not willing to listen to the voice of their brothers, the sons of Israel.
And the sons of Benjamin were gathered from their cities to Gibeah, to go out to make war with the sons of Israel.
And the sons of Benjamin were mustered on that day out of the cities, twenty-five thousand men drawing sword, besides those who were dwelling in Gabaa; these were mustered, seven hundred chosen young men.
All these were ambidextrous slingers, throwing stones at a hair and not missing it.
And every man of Israel was mustered, apart from the sons of Benjamin, four hundred thousand men drawing a sword; all these were men of war.
And they arose and went up to Bethel and inquired of God and said, the sons of Israel, Who shall go up for us leading to fight with Benjamin? And the Lord said, Judah shall go up leading.
And the sons of Israel rose up and encamped against Gabaa
And every man of Israel went out to battle against Benjamin, and every man of Israel drew up in battle order with them against Gibeah.
And the sons of Benjamin went out from the city and destroyed in Israel on that day twenty-two thousand men to the ground
And the men of Israel strengthened themselves, and they again set themselves in battle array for war in the place where they had set themselves there on the first day.
And the sons of Israel went up and wept before the Lord until evening and inquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I continue to draw near for battle with Benjamin my brother? And the Lord said, Go up against him.
And the sons of Israel came near to Benjamin on the second day
And Benjamin went out to meet them from Gabaa on the second day, and he destroyed from the people eighteen thousand men to the ground; all these were men drawn sword.
And all the sons of Israel and all the people went up and came to Bethel and wept before the Lord and fasted on that day and offered burnt offerings of peace offerings before the Lord
And the sons of Israel inquired of the Lord, and there the ark of the covenant of the Lord was in those days.
And Phinehas son of Eleazar son of Aaron was standing before it in those days, saying, Shall I still go out to battle with the sons of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease? And the Lord said, Go up, because tomorrow I will deliver him into your hand.
And the sons of Israel set an ambush around Gibeah
And Israel arrayed against Benjamin on the third day, and they drew up in battle line against Gabaa, as once and once again
And the sons of Benjamin went out to meet the people, and they were drawn out from the city, and they began to strike some of the people, as once and once, in the roads, which is one going up to Bethel and one going up to Gibeah, in the field, about thirty men in Israel
And the sons of Benjamin said, They are stumbling before us as before; and the sons of Israel said, Let us flee and draw them out from the city into the roads.
And every man of Israel rose up from his place, and they drew up in battle array at Baalthamar, and the ambush of Israel was breaking out from its place from the west of Gabaa.
And ten thousand chosen men from all Israel came from opposite Gabaah, and the battle became heavy, and they did not know that their evil had been let loose from them.
And the Lord routed Benjamin before Israel, and the sons of Israel destroyed among Benjamin on that day twenty-five thousand and one hundred men, all these drawing the sword.
And Benjamin saw that he had been put to flight, and the man of Israel gave place to Benjamin, because they had hoped in the ambush which they had set against Gibeah.
And the ambush rushed and they poured out against Gabaa, and the ambush went forward and they struck the whole city with the mouth of the sword.
And the arrangement was for the man of Israel with respect to the ambush, to raise up for them a signal of smoke from the city
And the men of Israel turned back in the battle, and Benjamin had begun to strike down wounded men among the man of Israel, about thirty men, because they said, Surely he is being routed, he is routed before us, as the former battle.
And the torch began to rise from the city, a pillar of smoke, and Benjamin looked behind him, and behold, the destruction of the city had gone up to the heaven
And a man of Israel turned back, and a man of Benjamin hurried, and he saw that his evil had touched him.
And they turned before the men of Israel toward the way of the wilderness, and the battle overtook him, and those from the cities destroyed him in their midst.
And they cut down Benjamin, to make him cease with a ceasing, and they trampled him down as far as opposite Gabaa, from the rising of the sun.
And there fell from Benjamin eighteen thousand men, with all these men of valor
And they turned aside and fled into the wilderness toward the rock of Remmon, and they cut down in the roads five thousand men, and they were pressed close behind him as far as Gadaam, and they struck down from them two thousand men
And all who fell in Benjamin were twenty-five thousand men drawing the sword on that day, with all these men of might
And they turned aside and fled into the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, six hundred men, and they sat in the rock of Rimmon four months
And the man of Israel struck down the sons of Benjamin with the edge of the sword, from city onward to beast, until every one found in all the cities; and they sent the cities that were found with fire.
